Infra-red energy is electro-magnetic energy that is not visible. It lives in the light wavelength spectrum next to the color red. It travels at the speed of light (186,000 miles per second), until it hits a surface (like your home). When the sun’s infra-red energy hits your home, the stopping of the energy source excites the molecules in the wall or roof which starts to conduct the heat towards the inside (especially during the summer).
When infra-red energy is traveling through air, a very small portion of the energy is absorbed by molecules in the air.
